Supplement reviews by ConsumerLab – Vitamin D, Magnesium, Vitamin K, Calcium , Boron

ConsumerLab provides, by far, the best supplement reviews on the web

Updated May 2022 in Bone - Health

A typical 40 page review has the following sections:

  • What It Is What It Does

  • Quality Concerns and What CL Tested For What CL Found

    • CL confirms that the amount stated is actually in the supplement

    • CL checks that there are no contaminates

  • Top Picks

  • Test Results by Product

  • What to Consider When Buying What to Consider When Using Concerns and Cautions

  • How Products Were Evaluated

    Pros:

  1. Typically the reviews will show the cost per unit of measure

    • (say 5 cents per 5,000 IU of vitamin D)
  2. Good review of the literuare as to the benefits and side-effects of each supplement

  3. They show the cost per unit meaure of a supplement

    • maximum cost of a supplement will often be 20X of the minimum cost
  4. They frequently update each review - popular ones are updated several times a year

  5. They have a 5 day free trial

    Cons:

  6. Suppliers must pay to have their products reviewed, so CL typically only reviews a fraction of what is on the market, and sometimes not the most popular products at that.

  7. They often consider bio-availability of the different products

    • e.g. Magnesium, Calcium, Omega-3, oil form of Vitamin D
  8. They do not seem to consider interactions (positive or negative) between supplements - examples:

    • Vitamin D and Calcium

    • Vitamin D and Omega-3

    • Vitamin D and Magnesium

    • Vitamin D and Resveratrol

    • Vitamin D and Vitamin K

  9. You can only subscribe to all of their reviews - you cannot buy an individual review

    • $48/year - with a discount for 3 year contract
