Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body and is necessary for healthy bones, teeth and muscles.
This audit of practice demonstrates that a majority of neonates with low vitamin D have a large anterior fontanelle. A large anterior fontanelle could be identified prior to discharge during the newborn and infant physical examination to aid with early detection and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
