Huge Employer benefit by encouraging Vitamin D

Saturday January 28, 2012

Employers gain by 1) reducing sick leave, 2) reducing health car costs, and 3) increasing productivity on the job while sick.
A study published in Jan 2012 documented a 0.5 % increased productivity by those who were sick on the job if they had somewhat higher level of vitamin D.
The total benefits to the employer of extra vitamin D might be 10X as large, 5%.
Encouraging vitamin D by employees and their families might result in an employer ROI of 25X per year.

From the author:
Higher vitamin D levels were associated with decreased on the job presenteeism (at work but not performing optimally due to physical symptoms or illness).
Improvements in on the job productivity go directly to the employer's bottom line economic performance.
Reductions in on the job productivity increase employer total health care costs.
These costs cannot be off-loaded onto employees via deductibles or co-pays.
